Welding With Water As Fuel

In nature, people find that water and fire are two kinds of enemies that are not in common. For example, people usually use water to extinguish fires. If the grease is on fire, the water cannot be used to extinguish the fire, because the high temperature generated by the burning of the oil can instantly turn the water into water vapor. Now, a water-fueled high-temperature spray gun has been built; there is no doubt that people are shocked by this high-temperature spray gun.

This high-temperature spray gun is called the “safety flame” spray gun. It is a technical achievement jointly developed by several European technology companies with the support of the EU government. The technicians believe that the portable “safe flame” spray gun can replace the conventional portable acetylene spray gun; It is well known that acetylene spray guns are standard equipment in the hands of welding workers all over the world. The basic equipment for the "safety flame" spray gun is a set of electrolyzer systems. As long as the water is poured into the electrolyzer, the electrolyzer can decompose the water into hydrogen minute and oxygen molecules, and then mix the oxygen molecules with the hydrogen molecules, and as long as the compound is ignited, a high temperature flame can be generated. The European News report claims that this high-temperature flame is very clean, and its burning by-product is only water.

Speaking of the above, the above technology is not a new technology. Technically, such a spray gun should be referred to as a oxyhydrogen spray gun; in recent years, such water-fueled spray guns have been commonly referred to as "water spray guns." In fact, Hans Manufacturing sold the first “water welder” back in 1969; but at the time it was found that welding equipment using acetylene fuel and welding equipment using arc technology were more cost effective, so Many professional welding workers use these welding equipment, and the oxy-fuel gun technology is only used in a limited range, such as welding glass and dip.

Although the oxy-hydrogen gun technology has been forgotten for a long time, the researchers recently showed the latest model of the "Safe Flame" spray gun on the "European News" "Fu Zhuo Xiu" TV show. The audience in front of the TV saw hydrogen. Oxygen lance technology not only becomes safer, but can also be fully applied to high-load industrial applications such as brazing; brazing is basically the same as other welding methods, except that a metal (filler) is melted before welding . One of the biggest features of the "safety flame" is that the flame only burns on the outside of the spray gun, and does not cause the spray gun equipment to generate heat. Unlike acetylene welding equipment and propane welding equipment, water is not flammable and does not require the use of pressure tanks for storage.

Nick Ludford is a scientist at the British Welding Institute. He said that because hydrogen-oxygen welding technology uses water as a fuel, it does not require the use of special pressure tanks for storage, eliminating the cost of storage, transportation and insurance. The cost of the technology is at least 20 times lower than the welding technology currently used. The British Welding Institute is a member of the research and development of hydrogen and oxygen technology. In fact, researchers in oxyhydrogen welding technology spend a lot of time looking for ways to reduce the cost of hydrogen-oxygen spray guns during research and development. Many of the raw materials used in hydrogen-oxygen welding technology are expensive.

For example, Anders Ellis, a researcher at ITM Energy, told “European News” that the research team has done a lot of work to reduce the use of expensive catalysts such as “platinum”. The electrolyzer can be produced at an affordable cost. ITM Energy is also a member of the research and development of hydrogen and oxygen technology.

According to the report, the researchers hope to put "safe flame" oxyhydrogen technology into practical use in the near future. Now, the researchers are testing the electrolyzer prototype with the help of a British welding technician.
